Solar Thermal: Questions About Cost

It surprises us that many people are still not familiar with solar thermal technology and often compare it to traditional solar photo-voltaic.

This is especially interesting because solar thermal is actually the older of the two solar technologies!

To help dispel some of the common misconceptions about solar we’ve put together this quick graphic so you can see the differences at a glance.

idaho solarNow, this isn’t to belittle solar PV! We have worked with it as an accompanying technology in the past with great success, and we believe it is through comprehensive use of multiple methods that you get the most benefit.

The biggest differences between the solar thermal we offer and solar PV is that solar thermal heats the water/liquid directly whereas PV creates electricity which then heats your water. Either one works, but when it comes to water heating solar thermal simply can not be beat!

Price too high? Not enough ROI?
These are all things we hear when people want to down talk solar and fact is when it comes to solar THERMAL these things are even less of a concern! Fact is, solar thermal from Renewable Energy NW has one of the fastest paybacks of any alternative energy; best of all you will see immediate return in the form of lower energy bills even before the system is paid off!

Are there up front costs? Yes! But that’s true of ANY investment.
After you’ve already enjoyed years of low energy costs and have your system paid off you can still see more returns should you decide to sell your home – as much as $20,000 in some cases! Ready to start saving? Let’s talk!

No Worries Winter With Solar!

Summer all but dried up and blew away in a matter of a few weeks here in the Northwest and the sudden change has many people worried that we might be in for another super frigid Winter! That is, people who haven’t harnessed the power of solar thermal!

Many people aren’t familiar with Solar Thermal, and think it’s the same thing as old standard Solar PV which only provides electric power. Solar thermal is a whole different technology! Our particular system is especially efficient as it makes use of the water already coming into your home to circulate heat throughout the building in order to provide not only hot water whenever you need it but also a holistic method of warming your home.

Don’t let the idea of high cost stop you in your tracks either! You don’t have to be loaded with cash because solar thermal saves dollars and makes SENSE! While you will see some cost up front, just like any investment, you’ll be glad to know that solar thermal has one of the fastest paybacks of any renewable energy and you will have the initial cost paid off in just a few years. In the meantime you will be able to enjoy about 50% less cost on your monthly energy bill so you will see the savings right away!

You could be enjoying a soak in your new solar hot tub this Winter while the neighbors are out shoveling snow!

Even better, with our radiant solar snow melt you won’t have to be shoveling either. There’s still plenty of time to get your solar thermal project on the books for this year so get in touch today for your FREE solar site estimate to see how we can start helping you save money on heating your home today!

It’s Never Too Late For Solar Thermal!

You’ve already noticed the temperatures dropping and the days getting shorter; according to the old farmer we’re in for another hard Winter in the Northwest. So you may be thinking it’s too late in the year to start that solar thermal project you started checking out in Spring – but it’s not! In fact, we likely have a couple of months of easy installation before the elements become a factor for our team and we can even still handle new jobs into the icy season.

What if you’re not building new? No problem!
While it’s definitely easy to install our solar thermal in new construction we can retro-fit existing homes without any issue. Roof space isn’t a problem either as we are able in some situations to mount our evacuated tube vertically to save room or to capture optimal UV.

But what about snow? And less sunshine? Winter is coming!
We’re happy to say that even during the “snowpocalypse” of 2016-2017 we only had a few service calls for clearing snow, and no real outages. While it is true that your solar thermal tubes will be receiving less direct sunlight during Winter since our systems are so highly efficient you’ll have no trouble having plenty of hot water for your home. You see our systems work on radiant ultraviolet energy; this is available even on cloudy days so you will have no troubles during the cold months.

Breathe easy – Renewable Energy NW has you all taken care of! We’ve been the Northwest’s source for affordable solar thermal and whole home holistic energy solutions for almost a decade and have over 1,000 panel installs under our belt. We love helping homeowners save on the energy costs and business owners too! Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you have questions, we’re glad to talk or provide a free estimate for your specific energy needs!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Renewable Energy NW LLC Obtains OG-300 Program Certification

Customers Excited For Even Better Incentives And Quality Standards

STAR,IDAHO

solar power idahoRenewable Energy NW LLC has just been awarded the OG-300 Program Certification for their solar thermal HVAC systems. This major certification is one more step take in staying on the cusp of available technology as part of their on-going mission to serve their customers with the very best energy solutions.

This designation means that the solar thermal systems from Renewable Energy NW LLC have been evaluated by the Solar Rating & Certification Corporation (SRCC) and approved for OG-300 certification. The operating guidelines for this program insure a certain level of quality and efficiency for solar thermal systems that bear it’s certification seal of approval, and is even required in some states in order to be applicable for some incentives.

Simply put, OG-300 certification is the best way to ensure that your solar thermal system will not only meet local regulations and incentive program requirements but also the standards set anywhere in the U.S.

While Renewable Energy NW LLC is already proud to be the lowest cost per BTU system in the USA, this new certification provides these additional benefits to their customers:

Greater Incentives
Some incentive program are not even available without this certifications.

Safety And Durability
Engineers review the system and it’s components to insure they meet comprehensive requirements.

Comparability
OG-300 certification includes high quality modeling to gauge to performance and energy savings the system can provide from a fair an unbiased third party.

Quality Assurance
Set performance standards help guarantee the level of quality and efficiency so that the consumer can be certain they are making informed choices.

Solar Thermal Does More Than Heat – How COOL Is That?!

Solar Thermal, despite being somewhat of a newer alternative energy technology is finally settling in to the broader awareness of consumers across the nation. It’s ability to cut costs by saving on heating the water for your home is easily it’s most well known application, with solar radiant heating and snow melt being close behind. But did you also know that the same system that you can use to slash your energy budget in half can also help cool your home or business as well?

It’s TRUE!

solar thermalFloor cooling is similar to floor heating that has been used in Europe and other parts of the world over the last several decades. The lines we use to run solar radiant heating through your floors can just as easily use the cool water already present in your home to circulate cool water throughout the building as well.

This ambient cooling provides a great, efficient way to move cooler temperatures through your home in the Summer months without overburdening your electrical system. This style of comfort cooling is exceptional because it works in harmony with your body, cooling not only through the touch but also by lowering the temperature of the air itself as the cooler air moves through the system.

Radiant cooling energy savings depend on the climate and other factors, but on average across the US savings are over 20% compared to conventional systems.  Solar radiant cooling also generally has lower first costs and lifecycle costs compared to conventional systems. While solar radiant heating and cooling may not be right for all applications, spaces with large air volumes, such as loading docks and warehouses, are especially good for radiant floor heating because heating all that air would be inefficient.

In more typical uses solar radiant hvac is more efficient than forced air heating or cooling because there are no drafts or duct losses.

Whether it’s for adding comfort to your home or business, we know that solar thermal can help you save on your energy costs!
